| 1. Figure out how you want to decorate the room. Some people prefer to run the tulle and lights to a focal point at the center of the ceiling. Others may want to put them side-to-side for a “stars in the night” effect. | ||
| 2. Measure out the tulle pieces so that it is sufficient to drape along the ceiling. | ||
| 3. Cut several pieces of the 1/8″ ribbon. Each piece should be about a foot long. | ||
| 4. Lay the tulle on the floor and place the Christmas lights along the center of the tulle. Roll up the tulle with the lights inside. | ||
| 5. Tie a ribbon piece at each end to secure the tulle and lights together. | ||
| 6. Use the rest of the ribbon pieces to secure the tulle and lights every 10 inches along the length. | ||
| 7. Hang the tulle on the ceiling with clear pushpins or removable hooks. |

I am going across a room that is 45 ft wide. I have bolt tulle that is 120 ft. I was thinking I would cut it in half to make it 60 ft to allow for draping. How wide should I cut the strip of tulle to wrap around the strand of Christmas lights? Then what are my next steps to hold the lights securely in? Or do you have a better suggestion? Thank you

Thank you for your message! Having the tulle be about 60ft will most likely work! Also, the width of your tulle really depends on how you want it to look from the ceiling. It is probably a good idea to have it at least a foot and a half wide so it can loosely fit around the lights. We suggest just using some ribbon to tie the lights to the tulle. If your lights are heavier, then you may need to secure it at different points to the ceiling itself and then wrap the tulle around the secured lights. The length will really depend on the size of the room you want to decorate. Usually, from the center of the room, the length of tulle will need to be at least 3-4 yards to reach the edge of a room. Our tulle bolts are available in lengths up to 50 yards. Hope this helps! Thank you 🙂

Most tulle bolts come in either a width of 52/54″ or 108″. For a project like this, depending on how much surface area you want to cover, it may be easier to go with a tulle bolt that is 108″ wide. Feel free to let us know if you have any other questions :-).

Which is better to use. Regular tulle or the fine mesh tulle for this type of look with the lights included?
Hi Kari, both types of tulle will work for this project. Fine mesh tulle might work a little better as it is softer than regular tulle and easier to work with. It is also a nicer fabric so the final result may look more elegant. However, something to keep in mind is that fine mesh tulle is more expensive than regular tulle. Can you advise whether handing mini lights in polyester tulle to create this starry effect will be a fire hazard? The string lights are 40.8 watts (0.34 AMPs)

Most lights won’t be a fire hazard with polyester tulle due to their low wattage. But if you want to prevent any risk of fire, we suggest going with 100% nylon tulle over polyester. Can I get away with using voile material?
